E Komo Mai
E Komo Mai to Big Island Talk Story. It is a place of stories, stories of those who have gone before and those who are currently part of the fabric of this wonderful place called Hawaiʽi. There is a special transaction that takes place between the ‘āina, the kai and people whose hearts dwell here. There is really no way to avoid being affected by the spirit of Aloha that permeates all the Hawaiian Islands, but I think especially Hawaiʽi Island.
The Talk Stories are a songline of sorts of my personal serendipitous experiences of people I have met as I journey through life on this island. I am continually amazed at the stories of the people I meet. Everyone has a story to tell and we are bound together and enriched by those stories in an ‘ohana that reaches back in time to the wisdom of Ancient Hawaiʽi and across the Pacific and the Planet. The Oral History section of this site serves a digital library of sorts. You'll find audio recordings of interviews I've conducted as well as others. You are welcome to add your story to the collection, creating a history of our place through the eyes, experiences and words of the people who live here, the kama'aina. If you have something you’d like to submit, please share your story here. For those who are interested in doing an oral history project, please check out the resources page that includes a list of websites about oral histories; a bibliography of oral histories; and a listing of links to videos of oral histories or talk stories. We are all part of a Big Story and a Big ‘Ohana… ‘IKE AKU, ‘IKE MAI, KOKUA AKU KOKUA MAI; PELA IHO LA KA NOHONA ‘OHANA.
Recognize and be recognized, help and be helped; such is family life. |
