Small Kid Time: Waimea SchoolHouse Stories

This project was inspired by the Isaacs Art Center in Waimea as part of the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the historic building that houses it. The building, constructed in 1915, was the first public school structure built in Waimea. Now an art gallery, the building was moved next to HPA’s Village Campus from its original location in June 2002, renovated and opened as Isaac’s Art Center in 2004.

The building holds the memories of the many people who attended school there.  At Waimea Middle School, Ms. Leesa Robertson’s seventh grade language arts class set out to discover those memories by interviewing ten people who attended Waimea School. Those interviews provided glimpses into life at Waimea School and in old Waimea.
