Mālama Ahupua`a: An Intergenerational Oral History Project

Mālama Ahupua`a is a collaborative oral history project that grew out of Waimea Middle School’s 7th grade curricular theme. The ahupua'a of this area was studied as a model for sustainable for interdependence.

In each of the core classes (Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, Math) students learned about each section of the ahupua'a, the kai, the kula, and the uka. The oral history interviews sought to deepen students’ understanding of mālama ahupua`a through the stories of the interviewees.
